OMC (Operational and Maintenance Console)
The OMC (Operational and Maintenance Console) is a module in the WLL
system that provides facilities for system administration, system
maintenance and traffic analysis. These functions are performed from the
OMC system or from a remote location on the EMS (Element Management
System) PC. The OMC system prevents unauthorized access to the OMC
functions via password protection.
System administration is provided via the OMC main screen. Features
available include:
- Subscriber administration and management (e.g., registration, service
class modification, malicious call tracing, hunt group modifications,
etc)
- Hardware management (e.g., configuring/de-configuring of sub-systems,
software updates, etc)
- E1 line administration (e.g., signaling configuration, designating of
incoming/outgoing traffic, taking of E1 into/out-of-service, etc)
- Traffic analysis and measurements (e.g., Exchange traffic, CBS traffic,
subscriber traffic, total number of call attempts, total number of
successful calls, call failures, holding time of calls, traffic on CPU
of OMC, traffic on printer, etc)
- Billing information database access (e.g., display of charge counters,
details call records, etc).
- PSTN ports and CBS administration
- Routing administration (e.g., routing of voice calls to PSTN and IP
calls towards RAS based on digits analysis)
- System maintenance is established using the OMC main screen, databases
and log files. Through these, the following features can be achieved:
- Health monitoring of all DIU cards, sub-systems and subscribers
- Testing of E1 interface
- Monitoring of interfaces (e.g., CBS, BSD, RAS, PSTN, etc)
- Sub-system software upgrading and subscriber upgrading
- Monitoring of alarm conditions
- Silent polling of subscribers from the DIU
- Diagnosis of failure of sub-systems
