DIU – DECT Interface Unit
The DIU is the heart of the system and acts as the interface to the PSTN.
It supports upto 1000 subscribers through 20 Compact base stations and
is a fully redundant switch. So whether one needs to increase the
network coverage or start giving basic telecom services and internet
services from a scratch – DECLoop is the answer.
CBS – Compact Base Station
The CBS is a small, weather-proof and pole or wall mounted unit which is
connected to and remotely powered from the DIU or BSD (see below)
through three pairs of copper wires. Each pair carries 144 kbps data and
power feed. One CBS serves 50 subscribers in its neighborhood. The CBS
provides 12 simultaneous conversations.
BSD – Base Station Distributor
The BSD is a small unit that enables upto 4 CBS units to be interfaced
to the DIU on an El (2.048 Mbps) link. The El link can be over optical
fiber, radio, or copper. The BSD can be located as far away from the DIU
as the El transmission media. The BSD connects to each CBS on 3 pairs of
copper wire and also supplies power to the CBS. The CBS units can be
upto 1 km from the BSD. The BSD is powered locally from a -48V
battery-backed supply.
RBS – Relay Base Station
The Relay Base Station extends the range of DECLoop WLL system by
relaying DECT connections between the Compact Base Stations (CBS) and
Wallset (WS). It consists of and Outdoor and Indoor or ground unit.
WS – WallSet
The wallset is a fixed subscriber unit mounted in a convenient location
at the subscriber's premises. An external antenna may be mounted outside
a window or on the roof to increase the radio range to the CBS. A 2-wire
interface on the wallset connects to a standard telephone, fax machine
or a modem. Battery back-up supports operation in case of mains failure.
WS-IP – WallSet IP
The Wallset with Internet port (WS-IP) provides Voice connectivity to
the subscriber in addition with it has a RS232 port to directly
interface with PC’s USB port (Without adding Modem). In fact the WS-IP
can support Simultaneous voice and Internet access. With a modem
inbuilt, there is no need of a modem in the PC or laptop to surf the
internet. It gives a standalone speed of 70 kbps and a sustained speed
of 35 kbps when used along with voice simultaneously on the same line.
MWS – Multi WallSet
Multi Wall Set is a fixed, mains- powered system with external high gain
antenna for extended range and supports four subscribers.
EMS – Element Management System
An Element management system is provided for monitoring and
administrating upto 100 DIUs from a central location. The X.25 protocol
is employed for communicating between the NMS terminal and DIUs. The
interface between the EMS terminal and each DIU is on a 64 kbps bearer.
OMC – Operations and Maintenance Console
OMC provides facilities for system administration (which involves subscriber
administration, E1 line administration, Routing administration, Traffic
measurements, Subscriber billing information data base access along-with PSTN
and BS administration) & system maintenance. All the OMC functions can be
performed from the OMC PC or from a remote location on the Network Management
System. OMC is capable of looking after only one DIU unlike the Network Management
System, which is meant for multiple DIU’s. The OMC PCs are inbuilt in the DIU unit.
