BBS Electronic |

Dr. Behrouz
Gholamrezaey founded BBS Electronics in Singapore in September 1984
distributing electrical and electronic components for The Radio
Corporation of America.
In 1993, BBS Electronics Malaysia was incorporated. To better serve
customers in Malaysia and to tap on the growing electronics industry
in the country, two offices in Penang and Kuala Lumpur were set up.
Later in May, the first overseas representative office began
operations in Tehran, Iran.
BBS Electronics Australia, another subsidiary, was started in March
1996 with an Australian partner for the wholesale of electronic
components in Australia and New Zealand.
1999 was eventful. In view of the vast business opportunities in India
three representative offices in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi were
established to strengthen BBS's geographical coverage in the Indian
market. Being a market dominated by many sub-contract manufacturers,
the Philippines presents good potentials for long-term growth. Hence,
our first Philippines representative office was set up in Manila in
the same year. Sales to the Philippines have since grown by 40% in
FY1999 to FY2001.
Riding on 2000's electronics boom, two more representative offices in
Pune and Trivandrum, India, were established. Engineering facilities
in the Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi offices were upgraded into full
fledged laboratories. Market coverage in Iran also expanded with a new
representative office in Shiraz, Iran. The year also saw new additions
to our list of principals.
By 2001, we were representing a total of 23 product lines. At the same
time, we also extended our network coverage in India with two new
representative offices in Hyderabad and Chennai and one in Bangkok,
Thailand. |

BBS
Holdings was incorporated in February 1996 to hold our investment. In
May and June 2000, we underwent a restructuring exercise to
rationalise and consolidate our Group structure. Pursuant to the
restructuring exercise, BBS Holdings became an investment holding
company holding all our investments in our various subsidiaries. |

In February 1999, we started
BBS Access, our wireless communications business. Our licensing
agreement with ADI granted us the right to design, develop,
manufacture, market, install and operate corDECT-based Wireless Local
Loop (WLL) systems. With the ADI Agreement, we are able to diversify
our business and reduce our reliance on the electronic component
industry through the WLL division. Our research and development on the
WLL project was supported by grants from The National Science and
Technology Board (NSTB) under Research and Development Assistance
Scheme (RDAS) . The RDAS Grant was awarded on a reimbursement basis
for R&D related capital expenditures, training and staffing costs
associated with our technology development programmers. |
